OTTO image tool

Test a main image against the size, background and fill figures that OTTO integrators quote.

    Quick answer

The OTTO image tool is a pre-flight test based on figures that integration providers quote: at least 500 px, at most 4500 px, JPG or PNG, a light neutral background and about 85% fill. We could not confirm these on a public OTTO page, so your partner account has the final word.

    What this tool does

    How to use it

    1. 1Add the image you plan to send as the main image.
    2. 2Read the size, format, background and fill results.
    3. 3Download the fixed copy and host it where your feed or connector reads it.

OTTO keeps its detailed image rules inside its partner area, and we could not read them on a public OTTO page. The figures here come from help pages by integration providers that connect shops to OTTO Market, so treat this page as a pre-flight test and your partner account as the final word.

Those providers describe a main image that is either cropped or on a light neutral background, with the product filling about 85% of the area. Unlike a pure white rule, that leaves room for light grey, off-white or beige.

    The missing main image error

Sellers using a connector can meet an error named HAUPTBILDER_NICHT_VORHANDEN, which reads as if no image was sent at all. According to Lengow's help page, it can also appear when the linked images fail OTTO's technical requirements. So a file that exists at a working link can still produce this message. Test the file itself, and make sure at least one link is sent with the media type IMAGE.

    Details this test cannot see

The same guidance says CMYK files are not permitted, and a browser cannot reliably tell you which colour profile a JPEG uses, so export as RGB from your editor. Retailer names, logos, text, icons, watermarks and test seals such as FSC, Oeko-Tex or TUV are described as off limits on the main image. Sources also conflict on image count: one integrator page says unlimited and another warns against more than 10 per variant. Keeping to 10 avoids the question.

    Questions sellers ask

What is the minimum image size on OTTO Market?

Integration providers quote 500 x 1000 pixels with a maximum width of 4500 pixels. We could not confirm this on an OTTO page. This tool applies 500 px to the shorter side, so also check that the taller side of your image reaches 1000 pixels.

Does an OTTO main image need pure white?

Not according to the guidance we found. It describes a cropped image or a light neutral background such as light grey, white, off-white or beige. That is why this checker accepts light plain backgrounds. A mid grey or a coloured backdrop would fail the test here.

What does the 85% fill check measure?

It measures how much of the frame the product spans at its widest or tallest point. If yours reads lower, crop tighter rather than enlarging the whole picture. The result is a warning and not a failure, because the figure comes from third party guidance.

Why does this page not say the rules are official?

Because we read them on integrators' help pages and not on OTTO's own site. Those pages quote OTTO, but rules can change without the quote being updated. Your OTTO partner account or partner support can confirm the current numbers for your category.

How do I fix HAUPTBILDER_NICHT_VORHANDEN on OTTO?

Test the image file itself first, because Lengow says this error can appear when linked images fail technical requirements, not only when they are missing. Then make sure at least one link is sent with the media type IMAGE, and that your connector can read that link.

Can I send a CMYK image to OTTO Market?

The guidance we found describes CMYK files as not permitted. A browser cannot reliably tell which colour profile a JPEG uses, so this test will not catch it. Export as RGB from your editor, and confirm the rule with OTTO partner support if unsure.

How many images can I add per variant on OTTO?

Sources conflict and we could not confirm it on an OTTO page. One integrator page says unlimited and another warns against more than 10 per variant. Keeping to 10 satisfies both readings, so it is a sensible limit until your partner account says otherwise.

Can an Oeko-Tex or FSC seal go on my OTTO main image?

Not according to the guidance we found, which describes test seals such as FSC, Oeko-Tex and TUV as off limits on the main image. This tool cannot see a seal, so check that yourself, and keep those facts in your product attributes.

Why does this tool use 20 MB for OTTO?

It is our own ceiling, because we found no published file size limit for OTTO. The 1000 px target is our own as well. Neither is an OTTO requirement, so read those two results as sensible suggestions and not as rules.

Is there a free OTTO image checker?

This page is free and tests size, format, background and fill in your browser, without uploading the file. It is not an OTTO tool and it uses figures from third party guidance, so a pass means the file fits those figures only.
